8th Class Reflection_ Who's the Best?

  8th Reflection @ the Last Reflection for my Pedagogy in Education class. The task for this last post, I think is the hardest, because the title given was::

  


"From the mock teaching sessions you have seen, choose one which you think is best. Reflect on the following aspects: teacher role in managing the students, managing the lesson, the teaching method, the lesson - content, and add two more aspects to reflect. - (to be written after you have seen all)"

  I am instructed to choose only ONE best mock teaching among my 13classmates. Tell you secretly, i actually visited all my friend's blog for the answer but none of them have posted the post about 'who's the best'. So sad... I have to complete it real quick so that my blog visitors ha enough time to give me feedback (my assignment too). I am here to apologize first for the other 12classmates which are not chosen. It is not that I do not like your mock teaching, but I just a little more prefer the one i choose for the best. Actually everyone's mock teaching has their good and bad one, some did fantastic games while some designed nice and perfect PowerPoint slides, Some explain very well while some manage the class well too. Therefore, everyone, please do not be sad for not chosen as the best here. You might be the best in others blogpost. Cheer up Guys!

  CONGRATULATIONS __________________________ Jeremy!!

  I think yours are the best is because::

(1) You manage the class well~ No one actually take their bags and leave the class? hahaha, you answer our nonsense questions patiently too.

(2) You did manage the lesson well too, the flow of it is indeed good. You start with a story which is relevant to your topic and it even helps us to remember the formulae! And i still remember until now!

(3) The teaching method you used was great! U played game with us, ermm.. Okay, you didn't play with us, but still. The group work you gave was fantastic. I believe you did all the questions yourself right? With the AirAsia thingy and my favourite Beauty and the Beast. (well, you successfully buy me over here) Good Job!!!!

(4) the content you teach for a 30min class is sufficient, not too heavy not too light. Just nice. I think all the experiences you gained from your voluntary job in teaching does benefits you here. :)

(5) You dress very formally too with your tie. hehe, I admire teachers who dress formally. Because it somehow looks smart, to me. 

(6) I love you slides too. Although it is much simple compared with those you normally did for your presentation (those gif), but i like you PowerPoint slides too. You did highlight things that is important in he slide with RED colour front. Photos used also very clear, it did not went blurrrrrrrr when projected in our big big screen - Uniec Inspire. Well done Jeremy!

(7) I think that you are the best is also because you did prepare your things very well, you know you are using Bluetack, you brought them, you also brought a bell for your games. You are really well prepared. Paper cards, answers for the games are all cut out, and you used colour paper which better than white plain paper because it will not be too boring for students. Students do enjoy colour paper much more than plain white only.

(8) You are a little thoughtful for being environment friendly too! Haha. you used recycled paper for the game section! A tiny reminder, remember next time when you use recycled paper, make sure there are no P&C information on the printed side, students nowadays are 'scary' in some sense. Hehehe

(9) You present yourself confidently. :) Good. You are not afraid of your students. 

(10) You smile throughout the whole lesson too. ;) Nice one Jeremy.

  I think 10 reasons for choosing you is a lot now! But, Bear in mind, No one is perfect ya~ Everyone has flaw, There are still many things to be improved too Jeremy. Dear all, you guys did well in your mock teaching too. Do not give up! Keep improving yourself. Even I myself.

   I enjoyed this class very very much. Very nice class which our lecturer really conducted the class way much differently compared with others. But unfortunately, i heard that next semester's pedagogy class will not be the same lecturer anymore. Maybe this is the last photo of my lecturer will be taking with her pedagogy's students in our Uni? Are we the last batch of pedagogy students she's having in our university? Perhaps.
  I wanted to take the opportunity to apologise for all the nonsense i did in the class and thank you everyone for your patients toward me. Hehe.  
  And, sincerely, Thank you Dr. Thousands words couldnt speak out the appreciation from me to you. Thank You for all the guidance :) Glad to have you. Dear Dr, you should be proud now! Because this is the first class that i receive feedbacks from all my friends that they will miss this class which i never receive before for all other previous class. Dr, you are really a very successful educators. :) I always believe that, a good educator is the one that students will still remember, respect and love even the educator no more teaching them. And this is also one of my goal of being an educator, my definition of a Good Teacher.

A little thought for [Totto-Chan]
  Finish reading this. A story about a little girl name Totto-Chan who had been expelled from a school but she only know about it on her 20th birthday. Totto-Chan is a cute, innocent and disciplined girl. Or i should say, She is a good girl as always says by her headmaster in her second school which named Tomoe. Why it is Tomoe? Read the novel and find out yourself. haha. Okay, lets skip the details of the story which everyone could just find out themselve.
  At the ending of the story, it was quite sad. Why? Don't want tell you. End of novel did talk about Mr. Kobayashi. His story. :) He is indeed a good teacher. Very good one. Totto-Chan is so lucky that she has a very supportive family, friends and teachers especially Mr. Kobayashi. It was quite sad to read that she lost her friend and Rocky.
  It's too short. I would say. It's only 100pages. It would be very nice if there is a movie version of it.(i searched for it, but come out many youtube shortfilm). I still wanted to know more about totto-Chan, more about the little she love during school time, more about everything and ofcause more about the respectful headmaster.

  It will still be the best if it is a printed virtual book because i love the feeling of holding a book and read it compare with sticking my eyes to the computer/tablet. I used to read, my mother would not hesitate to buy me books (ofcause there is a limit too), she say she rather i read books than reading online because its bad for the eyes(thats was years back). Now, i buy my own book but English book or all books here are NOT CHEAP at all. For Western countries or other countries, novels only cost them few dollars or even few pounds, not like here, at least 30-40 ringgit a book.
  To all books lovers out there, especially English books, every year there is a bookfair named BBW (big bad wolf) which sell books much cheaper than buying in bookstore. Do pay a visit next time. I've been buying books there for the past few years. Around 100+ringgit i could buy.. Hmmm.. At least 8-10 of them. (cheapest novel is RM5?)

7th Reflection_My Mock Teaching

  ALERT!!! I changed my songs again! I think this is the last time I'm changing the songs. Ending semester soon, why this semester fly so fast? I remained same songs, some is from the first playlist while I added some new songs too. Evermore from Beauty and the Beast. Everyone is in Beauty and the Beast trend now. I like this movie because Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney movie. I always 'on' my blog for the music, especially completing homework. Maybe it's just because I put all songs that i myself like? Or it is really calming and relaxing? I have no idea, i think both. Haha

  Lets back to the topic of the day. Ended my mock teaching today. Everything goes on well. After my mock teaching, my friend and I went to lvl2 for the Free Market 2.0 for 'shopping' and also to complete our given task by our lecturer for Social Entrepreneurship. From there, i had another Henna drawing which is FOC.

 The task given for this blog post is::
 After Mock Teaching. Reflect My own mock teaching:
1-How the lesson went in general.
2-What I would do differently.
3-What went wrong. 
4-What I liked about the lesson.
5-If the activities and class dynamics reflected my teaching principles.
6-What I learned in the process.

 1.How the lesson went in general?

  I would say good. When on as expected, flow of the presentation also did went on as what i had practised too. I started the class by asking students to guess the topic we are going to learn today. And i answered them by showing a song title 'Im a circle'. There are total 3videos used in this mock teaching including 2 songs and 1 teaching material. To search for the suitable videos and a short and simple one, it takes me up to around 2hours plus, included downloading and trimming the videos. This is because i myself have to watch every single one of them to ensure it is okay. Hahaha. 

  The Circle song is so brainwashing to me. I still can sing out now, '2 pi r sounds like area to me~~~'. I added movement in the song too to make it a little mpre lively for students. One of the reason is because i scare my friends are feeling tiring and bored after so many mock teaching before me. But for the dancing part, i did worried about 'how if they are not willing to participate', but Jen say she will dance along too. Okay! On! Hahaha

  I used Kahoot too for my quiz section. Taught by a senior of mine a day before my mock teaching. Or i should say 12-hrs before. Luckily it is not complicated. Once again thank you senior and thank you Jen for helping in the Kahoot. :D

2.What I would do differently?

  Hmm.. If I'm given another chance for the same topic same mock teaching. I would change my PowerPoint a little bit which is adding another few slides of sample questions for students to understand how to apply the formulae before asking them to attempt Kahoot.

  And, i should have start shopping my long pant at least a month ago. Haha.

  I would also prepare some gift for students who achieve high score for the Kahoot quiz. Cannot give food is because....... Im lazy to explain. But i do not have enough time to prepare small gift such as bookmarks or pen for them.(due to a night before, hehe)

3.What went wrong?

  In my opinion, first, the Kahoot quiz. I really should have shown a few sample question before the quiz. Second, my attire. No reason to defend. my fault. :)

4.What I liked about the lesson?

  About my own lesson? Ofcause is everything! hahahhaha. I like the most is the dancing part which everyone dancing together, although it is only a few simple moves. I also like how shock they look when they listen to the first song -'Im a circle'. I also like the moment when students are so happy for everyone getting correct for the same question. The 'finally im correct' look from them. Hahaha XD So sad, i cant snap photo with my handphone that time.

 5.If the activities and class dynamics reflected my teaching principles.  

  Yes. As i always says, haha, i think even my friends are bored of it, "as long you likes your teacher, you will actually follow what they ask you to do no matter how childish it is". hahaha, Maybe because my friends likes me thats why they are all dancing along with me? My teaching principles are never give up and believe in children that they are all born with kind-hearted. Well, i know all these could not be seen in only 1 lesson. But i believe i will always follow my own principle in teaching. Extra: Being strict but friendly is also my own life principle. =]]] 

6.What I Learned in the process?

  I learned alot. First, from the aspect of how to plan a lesson plan. Lesson plan really takes time, it is not a last minutes job. you can't actually do it in an hour time because you have to really read read read again to ensure there is no single mistake. Well, practice makes perfect. The more we plan a lesson plan, i think next time, we can plan a lesson plan in 5minutes time? Just Kidding.

  Second, I learned how to conduct a class effectively. Not to say perfect, but at least i have the chance to really teach a class. Although once I did worked in a tuition center but it is different because that time, i do not know what is teaching approaches, what is class management. Now i know. 

  Third, I learned how to use Kahoot. Really interesting and fun. Simple and easy to master it. Will definitely use again.

  Fourth, I learned about friendship. =) It is really true what others always says. The way you treat others is the way others treat you. I am really glad and happy to have you guys. I mean, everyone of you here now reading this. Thank you.

  As a conclusion, i really gain alot from here.Really worth it for those sleepless nights. Hehe. For the emoji exit ticket. thank you everyone for the feedback. Appreciate it. 6th Class Reflection

  Hello everyone, Im back! First of all, so sorry for the late post, been a little busy for this week, i do not know why although quite many classes were cancelled, but.. hmmmm. maybe because of assignment or simply my laziness.
  
  This week's class is online class which can conducted anywhere you like as long there is a computer and internet connection. The class was at 9am, i overslept until 15minutes before class. I quickly rush to prepare myself for the class and faster change my pyjamas! I thought it would be the same online class I had for my Information System last semester. That online class was with video! Hahaha, our IS lecturer can see everyone's face.So I don't dare to wear pyjamas ONLY for my online class. hahahha could you imagine that ME wearing pyjamas for class? But, Hmmm. out of my expectation, this time, the online class has no video, it looks like whatsapp? FB messenger? It has a BEEP function that the purpose is to wake up the particular ppl. (something like POKE in FB) 
  
  This class is about Class management(CM). We talked.. erm, 'talked' about class teacher(CT) and subject teacher(ST). The different is, CT is the mother of the class while ST is the teacher who in charge of a particular subject. We discussed the aspect for CM and characteristics of a proactive teacher. At the beginning, everyone don't really quite understand what is 'growth at risk', but after 2 examples given by our lecturer, we finally understand it. Now i know why it is called growth at RISK. :D 

  I still remember, suddenly our lecturer asked a question, she said '123 go'. I was so shocked. Har???? 123 go? but luckily i still manage to answer the question. Many students in and out in the middle of the conversation, mainly due to the internet connection. Luckily, we can view back the chat history. Opps, My friend and i spammed the chat at the ending part, we thought the beep thing would not appear in it, but ended up all stated clearly there. Haha, if you read back the history, hmmm. you will see many beep here beep there messages from us. hahaha. I never know the BEEP thing has sound effect! until JemJem shown me, i don't know why my laptop not showing the effect. hahaha

  Okay okay, enough on the online class thingy. Our R6 task is...........................

  The Preparation of my Mock Teaching
   
  One of the reason why Im late for my blog post is because of this. haha. Is it a unfortunate or fortunate for having my mock teaching for the 6th person of first day? Maybe i should take it a good thing so that i can end my presentation real soon? But due to im the 6th aka last one of the day, hopefully it's not a challenge for me to handle sleepy students. After 2.5hr of 'class' with other 'teachers', i think students will be a little quite tired. Even during school time, the 6th period would be our recess time. haha. it's okay, i believe i have many supportive friendssss which will pretend to be awake even they are sleeping inside. Haha. hope everything goes well on this coming Tuesday.

  On Wednesday, i sent my lesson plan to my lecturer and i received the reply on Friday morning. the replies i received was the details have no issues, but my teaching has to engage students. Is that means that my class has to be much more interesting? "What do you think? What will help students learn most?" hahahhaa. and one more "Imagine you as a student, what would u want the teacher to do".
  
  These questions has been squeezing my brain juice until now. Hmmmmmm... I'm still thinking, 'HOW?'. Meanwhile I'm squeezing my brain juice for CD assignment too. Will I put down some weight after drying up some of my brain juice? I hope so. =]

  Anyone reading my blog has any suggestion on how to make mathematics interesting? Please do share me some ideas by this Monday. This question keep on wandering inside my brain: 'How to make maths interesting, what do students want us to do? Hmm'. I planned to teach form3 Circle. The first class is going to be the basic concepts and formulae of a circle. How to make it interesting.................
  
  I have no experience or memory of having fun class in mathematics, If im not mistaken, during my school life (not university's), all my mathematics class don't really contain any games. Hahaha. Why ar why ar why ar? Even sometimes my teacher allowed us to watch a single short video, that already makes us so excited and happy. Hahahaha XD. Kid. hahaha

5th Class Reflection


  Hello there, I'm back for my 6th post here.

  Today's class started with MUSIC. I mean the topic 'Music as the supporting learning tool'. Ofcause are those classical song, not those that we are listening in our phone right now. Hahaha. Although i myself didn't listen much classical songs, but im still in love with my 'Marriage D'amour'. Definitely will give it a try next time in my class. I really do agree with using this as a 'count down' for student's activity. Hopefully, i could manage to design out a playlist that end exactly at 15minites, 20 and 30 minutes. ( see when i have the mood to do so, maybe next year? Hehehehe) It is really a good idea to use music as a timer for activities, rather than you shouting and yelling for 'Times up, times up, stop writinggggggg..'. It is much better that you could train your students to follow the music. Once the last music is played, students know how many minutes more they have. I believe students will enjoy this kind of class rule too.

  We talked about the objectives and outcomes for lesson plan. And ofcause, from there, we have a forum to be completed by next class. Which is create a PowerPoint slideshow for 1period class of our own discipline. I think i'll be taking Form3 Mathematics, Topic 3: Circle. I think only, still considering.... Opps! I still have to crack my head for the objective and outcomes for the PowerPoint i will be creating.

  During this week class, lecturer talked about 'Slide'. What is a good slide? And what is a bad one? I think that, to create a good slide, you must fit yourself in others shoe. What i meant is, take yourself as the audience, and ask your own self, ' can i see clearly for the information presented?' and 'can i understand?'. This is important. Asking yourself can you see clearly included the aspect of background colour, front size and colour and must not forget, the quality of image. Your image or pictures inserted might look fantastic in your computer but when it is projected on the board, it's much different! Remember that!!!

  This week reflection task is................
"Choose one set of PowerPoint from 'Internet', then 'fix' it!"
Additional of this question was "If you think the PowerPoint do not needed to be fixed, explain why with 4 reasons"

  Well.. As i am so lazy to crack my brain for the 4 reasons. I decided to take a needed to fix PowerPoint. hahaha. Here i start my task.

  Okay, I assumed you had viewed and look through the slides. Let me introduce the slide first. This slide is created for the purpose of presentation BUT not the type of presentation we used to have here. It's from a friend of mine in USA. They had their presentation by passing around their laptop to show their classmates the slides. The original version was, it has timing, and background music. ( i have no idea why after i uploaded this to slideshare, i do not know how to play the music and the timng thing, can always ask me for the slide, i can show you personally). So, this explains why the front is small, the background of the slide is yellowish, and the quality of image is not perfect.

  I changed the design of the background, to white. So that we can see the information on it clearer. I enlarged and Bold-ed some of the front to make things look clearer and to contrast them. I did cut off some words too, because some of it was too long. I changed some front colour to dark red to emphasis the important keywords. I couldn't change the quality of images because those images were many years back which the quality of the images considered quite GOOD during back time.

  In a conclusion, whenever you are creating or designing a PowerPoint, I understand that it would be awesome if there are many images and being colourful. BUT, simple always is the best, Whatever you wanted to add in or enhance your slides, DO always remember ONE point. "Can the audiences see and understand them?"

  Thats all from me today. Mini reminder to stress myself up, 1 more class till my mock teaching. =O Scary? I do not know. Hahaha. Off to complete my forum now. Hmmm. feel like eating the latest Mcflurry--GreenTea McFlurry. Tried to find HIM yesterday but unfortunately, that MCD branch do not have it. So sad... Lets try again. Hehehe

4th Class Reflection

Good day everyone, had you enjoyed your day off today? (for me, Wednesday is a off day because i have no class on each Wednesday) I'm here again to write you guys my 4th class reflection. It's currently 12.45am now. hehe, lets see how many hours i use to update this blog post. Many of my friends say i update my post very fast but it is because i want to stress up my weekdays and enjoy my weekends. Sleep whole day, shopping or blaaaaa. I also know it's late now, but this weekend i won't be free, so lets complete it now.

  FYI, due to too many complaints from my buddies that my blog's background music is too shocking to them, (my first song is a violin version song), i changed my playlist. I removed some of them by adding in some new songs. Some Disney songs i did remain but changed from piano version to the original song(with lyrics). Little information, i LOVE Lion king and Beauty and the Beast. :) but too sad, if you did update yourself about the most recent news about this wonderful Disney movie-Beauty and the Beast, due to some issues, Disney is not allowing it in Malaysia. (Skip this now..............)

  Start our main topic. This class was about lesson plan. As usual, of cause there's a Q&A section. Before sharing my thought, lets answer the given task first. This is the task given for our 4th reflection:

   Lecturer had shown us 3examples of lesson plan, 1 for Mathematics while another 2 for English, All lesson plan has it own format. From what I had learnt in the class, the format or the structure of lesson plan is depends on the school you are teaching. Some school has this but not that while other school has that not this. Based on the task which is 'Design my own structure of lesson plan', we could add or minus the structure of the lesson plan. So, this is the lesson plan of mine that i think is suitable for all classes.

  Let's Explain:
*star is stated for few of them, means it might be needed or not needed.

Level of Proficiency: for example, beginner? This can help educator in preparing how heavy should the class be, if it is for beginner, maybe educator should start with something that is more toward basic learning or questions and exercises that is easier compared with expert level. If for expert level, educator can prepare the exercises that require more higher order thinking skills or critical thinking,
Background Knowledge: for example, students learnt the basic concept of log. To allow educators know what is being taught for the pass lesson and what student's knew,
Learning Objectives: i think giving minimum 3 objectives is appropriate.
Learning Outcomes: I think giving 3 outcomes is appropriate too but this is subject to changes according to the number of objectives given, all objectives should be achieved and become the outcome of the lesson.
*Values: If the educator can come out with any values about this particular lesson, educator can include it into the lesson plan. if there is none, its okay. For example, students learn how to work together in group presentation.
Teaching Aids: This is necessary even using textbook only also required to state in here. This can also ensure educator do not forget what to bring or prepare for the class such as have to bring newspapers, hangouts, colour pencils or tools needed for the class and more.
Teaching/Learning Approaches: Including at least 1 teaching approach can make the class much more fun and interesting than using the usual way of teaching which is teaching talk students listen. Listing out the teaching and learning approach can also act as a reminder for the educators that they had used these approaches last lesson. Change to something new! Also a clearer view for educators to prepare themselve in these teaching approaches to ensure class can goes on smoothly.
*KBKK: If educator can link to the KBKK, educator can list it out here.
*Resources/References: If educator use things outside the textbooks such as newspaper articles, videos, musics or online games and games. It's references and resources should be stated here. If none, it's okay.

 
  It's like the usual lesson plan. The activity and duration must stated clearly, so that it will not confuse others. In my opinion, Development should separate it to Stage 1 or 2 or 3 or so on, this is to allow a better control in duration for each activity and section. If all listed under Development only, it might lead to some time management issue such as not enough time to complete the activity. 
  For the Teaching and Learning Method, I myself prefer it to be separated into 2 different columns as it will be much easier to understand and much easier to be conducted too.
  Rational and AVA(Audio Visual Aids), I likes it to be separated too, compared with putting them together. This can make things look much neat and tidy.  AVA could be none if there is no teaching/learning aids needed for that particular activity.
  
  At the end of it, educator can include 'Reflection', this allow educator to improve themselve for the next lesson. Appendix can come after Reflection. Including a copy of the handout, exercises or notes given during the class.

  That's Yue Ling's version of structure of lesson plan. This is also my first time trying to design a lesson plan and i really have zero experience about it. Please do ask me or correct me if i did it wrongly or missed anything that should be in it, in the comment box below. Thank you very much and much appreciated.

  Oh yaaa, back to my little thought about the class. i asked a question which is i think everyone might actually will face during their teaching next time. The question was about, what to do if there is a very very slow learner in your class while others are fast learner or at least faster that him? How to help him? How to plan the lesson plan, should i follow him? or the others? After a nice discussion among all, i think i get the answer. i still remember lecturer said 1 sentence which still keep in my mind until now. (in the aspect of learning) Lecturer did solve my doubt too which is, the student can't 'be same like others' in a short time but needs time.
***the same like others is not to say same as smart as or as intelligent as, or even learn as fast as. Its just about.. erm... example: that student can finish his essay on time like others did :)
